I just finished reading Son by Lois Lowry. I feel a sense of closure and sadness at leaving this powerful novel. I remember reading her first novel in the series, The Giver, more than 12 years ago. It is a thought-provoking piece of fiction that evokes discussion about the rules of society. The community that the characters live in are so far fetched that we can hardly believe that they could ever be true. A good book that helps us think is a treasure to be shared.
I was looking for a book to read, so I borrowed an ebook version of The Giver from the library. I think my kids would like to read it. Something about it reminds me a little of The Hunger Games--maybe it's the strange way their society functions. I'm looking forward to reading the series.
